Maury Microwave Founder
The story of Mario A. Maury, Maury Microwave’s leading founder, not only shows the determination, ingenuity, and passion necessary for building a successful business in an incredibly competitive and technical industry, but also demonstrates an overcoming of geographic, personal, and family struggles to strengthen and build a larger family of true believers in the vision of an immigrant father and his two sons.
A Father and His Sons
Maury Sr’s childhood is one not uncommon for some of the most impressive and distinguished industry revolutionaries. As evidenced by similar trends in the broader Cuban-American community, Mario’s experience growing up under the mid-1900s communist rule clearly shaped his outlook towards life and the opportunity available across American society. In speaking with Mario’s youngest son, Marc, he sought to ensure that the Artemis team understood how proud and grateful his father was to have the opportunity to successfully build a multi-million dollar family operated business.
Following his emigration from Cuba to the United States, Mario attended Columbia University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering. After graduation, Mario worked at Pan Am as a Flight Engineer; at Sperry Gyroscope Corporation, where he worked on radar and communication systems critical to the Allied effort in World War II; and at General Dynamics.
Using his expertise in the RF and Microwave space, and driven by a desire to spend more time with his sons, Mario Sr. founded Maury & Associates after making the journey from Arizona to move in with his two sons, Mario Jr. and Marc, in Montclair, CA. Their first product line included custom-designed low, band, and high-pass filters, as well as an assortment of miscellaneous passive components. Mario Sr. worked full time at the business, while his sons continued working at General Dyanmics, using the money they earned to support the family and help pay operating expenses. Together, and in spite of many obstacles encountered, the Maury’s tirelessly laid a sturdy foundation for a business set to become an industry leader in RF and Microwave.
a family legacy enabling global safety & Security
In 1964, following a two-year battle with cancer, Mario Sr. passed away, leaving the business to Mario Jr, who was known to be passionate leader and skilled marketer. Together, with his brother Marc, he grew the business, over the next 30 years, to seemingly unimaginable heights, weathering economic storms, and all the while preserving the founding values of Mario Maury, through honesty, integrity, and quality, in every employee and piece of hardware.
Following the loss of of Mario Jr. in 1994, leadership transitioned to Marc Maury and later to his son, Greg Maury, in 2006. In under 60 years, three generations of Maury’s had successfully assumed the leadership position at Maury & Associates, each leading the charge toward innovation, diversity, and a more connected, communicative future for people worldwide.
3 Generations at the Helm of progress
Spanning three generations and six decades, Maury expanded from a family operation to employ over 150 people, has offices in the Americas, Europe, and China, and has built out a world class management team. From deep space exploration to low-earth orbit satellites, Maury Microwave’s test & measurement, interconnect, and software solutions drove major progress in the global effort towards discovering a safer, more secure, and more connected world.
